Indesign CC Lifesaver

Last week for work, this little tool saved the day! I created an Indesign file with Adobe CC on my work computer, and needed to open it on my personal computer. While I do have access to Adobe Creative Cloud on both, apparently Indesign's latest software update is not available for all IOS systems - Leaving me unable to open my file.
Luckily, I found this website that will convert your Indesign files (no matter the version it was originally created on) and convert them into idml files for free! Let me tell you, this worked like a charm.
Anyways, too good not to share-- check it out. http://ixsaveback.de/idsb/web/service/index_en.jsp

Amber & Rene's Wedding Gift!

Just recently, Walter and I had a couple of friends elope and get married in Hawaii! We had no idea until the newly weds called us from Hawaii to share the news!! Within a couple weeks of the call, we received a reception invitation. With no registry, we wanted to give something that was special, unique and meaningful. We opted to make a personalized California cutting board!
Below, is the rough idea I will trace on with graphite paper then woodburn!

After a couple of hours over a couple of days... The wood burning was complete.

I've only wood burned a bamboo cutting board once before, so I think it turned out great! Hope they like it! <3

Bellingham Burros Logo!

So Walter and I have a soccer tournament coming up in Bellingham and thought it would be cool to get jerseys created for the tourney. When I was searching for inspiration for the team logo (Bellingham Burros) I came across this Skillshare lesson: How to Design Sports Logos- Create Your Own Team Mascot. All of the examples looked awesome, so I knew we had to watch it.
Here are some of the various stages we went through until we reached the final piece!
That donkey just looks to mean!

Floating Hexagon Shelves!

For my birthday, I asked Walter to create me some hexagon shelves. As everyone has seen, they are quite the trendy thing right now, yet they are so expensive to buy! In addition, everywhere i've seen them for sale, they are tiny! They couldn't even hold a book, which to me seems as if it defeats the purpose.

My condo has the perfect wall for hexagon shelves, and I thought they would be a great craft for him. When I finally got my rtf shelves, I was sooo impressed. He made 3 of them, and said we were going to finish them together.

Since we didn't know what to do first, I painted the insides of one hexagon and he stained the outside of a different hexagon. Rookie mistake. Painting before staining never ends well. The stain is much darker than the paint and if it splatters in the slightest, you gotta repaint. I also should've looked up how to stain wood. We were putting on way too much stain, which made the drying time seem like eternity.

When we finally finished staining the wood of all three shelves we had to repaint the insides. This is when Walter came up with an awesome idea to add patterns to inside of the shelves. To make the pattern stand out, but also remain subtle, we used a metallic color in the same shade as the base. He taped off the designs with painters tape.

Pretty soon we had 3 awesome looking shelves!

Andddddd all three shelves are finally mounted....

Marquee A&W Letters!

Recently,  I've really, really been wanting to make marquee letters to stick up somewhere in my house. I thought it would be really cute to have A&W (My boyfriend's name being the W). However, I've had a really hard time finding the right font or material. Either the letters were a good size, RTF wood, but a really awful font or the wrong dimensions. Not to mention it needs to have room in the back for the wiring to sit. After a couple hours on pinterest and a few trips to craft stores, I decided on some paper mache letters from Ben Franklin.
Next I needed to figure out how I wanted to paint them. Pinterest was full of bunch of different ideas, which eventually led me to Kristen's Blog on Metallic Letters. While she made hers with black Apple Barrel Paint, I decided to speed things up with spray paint- which still worked out fine.

After the paint dried, I decided to poke holes in the letter every inch or so. After the holes were punched, I added a bit of a rust color and dry brushed it over some of the holes.

 All three letters, finally finished...

For the lights, I chose Philips 50ct LED Mini Sphere lights- in warm white.  It's a little hard to see, so I've added a filter to help it show better.  Overall, awesome project and super fun. Stuffing the wires into the back was a little challenging, but nothing a little hot glue can't fix! :)

Happy Earth Day 2015!

Happy Earth Day everyone! This was a fun little infographic I made for work. While brainstorming what this years' Earth Day email should be I randomly came up with the idea to search for "eco-apps". Obviously i'm behind the times because there were a lot of apps to review! A lot of the apps are really great ideas, and are offered for Iphones and Android users!

Craftsaquah Business Cards!

Very excited to announce that Walter and I just got our very own business cards for Craftsaquah Collective. It functions as a business card and a thank you note we can include in our etsy orders! I was so excited when I went to Moo, and saw they offer these super cute mini cards! The mini cards are available in regular business card paper or "Luxe". Of course, I opted for the Luxe. The double thick paper, and colored center really bring out the logo I think.
